MBT Supervision: A Deep-dive into Technique

Bob Drozek and Brandon T. Unruh

This supervision will serve as an intensive introduction to the core techniques of mentalization-based treatment (MBT). Meetings will involve a mix of didactics, discussion of cases, and video illustrations. Drawing from their recent book, Mentalization-based Treatment for Pathological Narcissism: A Handbook (co-authored by Bob Drozek, Brandon Unruh, and Anthony Bateman), Bob and Brandon will introduce what they call the domain-based conception of mentalization—a streamlined presentation of MBT’s concepts that offers step-by-step recommendations about “what to do when” in psychotherapy sessions with patients. While the book focuses specifically on narcissism, the supervision will focus on applying MBT’s techniques to help patients struggling with a wide range of clinical challenges, including instability in mood, identity, relationships, and behavior.   This supervision will serve as the first step into more advanced MBT supervision, which includes ongoing case-based supervision, where participants will have the opportunity to present cases, show video, and receive detailed feedback about clinical process.

Cost: $1000 for 13 sessions

Calendar: Wednesdays from 9 AM-9:55 AM Eastern Standard Time, starting April 22nd, 2026

Textbook: Mentalization-based Treatment for Pathological Narcissism: A Handbook, co-authored by Bob Drozek, Brandon Unruh, and Anthony Bateman. Published through Oxford University Press: Click here to view.
